I should to start collecting greenbacks every time a business owner asks me to assist them in getting clients with social media…I’d be in a position to retire by January 23rd.
It isn’t that these folks think social media is really the right place to get clients…It’s just that they do not have any money.
And everyone knows social media is free.;-)
What they are actually telling me is their plans never accounted for the cost of acquiring clients. They have detailed spreadsheets of every possible contingent expense you might imagine. But nothing set aside to do the one thing that sustains a business…clients (paying ones).
And social media appears free…and convenient to use.
And it is…Honestly.
But you’ve got to have something to say (it better be interesting). And you’ve got to have a following to assert it to. See that is how social media works…it’s your own personal soap box in the square.
You just do not want to be that freaky guy that is out there ranting to the air…with nobody around to hear.
Having spent the last 18 months building an audience, I can tell you from personal experience that…
It takes time…a lot of time…more than you’d imagine.
And work…a lot of work…more than you’d imagine.
Time is the same as money. Social media ain’t free (don’t kid yourself).
It costs moola to acquire clients…it always has and I believe it always will. Facebook has not miraculously changed the laws of economics.
It’s just suckered some entrepreneurs into believing in a free meal.
What I see day-in and day-out are firms that haven’t come close to using all of the other (less complicated) ways in which they can profitably obtain clients…but they are ready to stake their future on social media.
Often it just takes an exterior eye to see the openings you already have.
